'Eddie' - Alcohol and Drug Problem Solving Court
Supported by South Lanarkshire Council
Eddie has faced significant challenges, including substance use, homelessness, and untreated bipolar disorder. His early life was marked by neglect and abuse, leading to persistent mental health and substance use issues. Despite these struggles, his recovery journey demonstrates the impact of comprehensive support and digital intervention.
Eddie’s offending history has been sporadic. His recent offence was primarily linked to his substance use, making it crucial to address this to promote desistance. He was placed on his Structured Deferred Sentence (SDS) in the Alcohol & Drug Problem Solving Court after an initial assessment from the Recovery Oriented Justice Service (ROJS).
Digital Lifelines Scotland was pivotal in Eddie’s recovery. He received a tablet and Wi-Fi router, which allowed him to access online courses and educational resources. Digital access has equipped him with tools and resources to enhance his knowledge, connect with supportive communities, and actively participate in personal growth.
He connected with online recovery communities, finding support and sharing his journey with peers who understood his struggles. Digital access has enabled Eddie to participate in virtual recovery meetings and workshops, offering flexibility and accessibility, crucial during times when attending in-person meetings was not feasible. These platforms provided emotional support and maintained his motivation.
This support reduced his risk of substance harm, helping him abstain from Street Valium and alcohol. His engagement with digital resources underscores the transformative potential of integrating technology into support programs, highlighting the importance of digital interventions in providing comprehensive support and fostering sustainable recovery.
There have been no further reports of offending, and he is on course to complete his SDS successfully. His recovery was supported through various social work, digital and mental health therapeutic interventions.
